Go Chic Or Go Home [giveaway]

I am all about organization and planning, and while that's easy enough to do with emails, papers, and schedules, my closet is a little harder to tackle. I have long wished for an easy way to look at my closet items and match them together for inspiration (my flighty brain just doesn't hold ideas long if I don't get them out somewhere). So when I heard about Go Chic or Go Home, a social site that combines a photo closet inventory and easy ensemble creation with friends and shopping, I jumped in with both feet!

My favorite features:
  • Online closet.  Goodness I have a lot of clothes (and I'm not done yet). It's also fun to get inspiration from stuff others have posted into their closets.
  • Ensembles. Great way to try out outfits using clothes you actually have. Fun and practical.
  • Exploring. See what others are up to and how they're styling things from their closet. In addition to ensembles, members can also post outfit photos.
  • Points! The competitor in me love anything where I can get points. GCOGH gives points for uploading photos, interacting with other members, and participating in other fun challenges. Points can be redeemed as donations to a charity or gift certificates to a retailer.
  • Wish List. Shop leading online retailers (including some of my faves like Banana Republic, Macy's, and Piperlime) with GCOGH's easy in-site shopping and members-only discounts. Click on over to the retailer and purchase or add an item to your wish list for later.
Take a look at my profile, my closet, and member ensembles.

GCOGH is giving away a $50 gift card to a GCOGH retailer of your choice to one lucky New Professional reader!
It's easy to enter:
  1. Become a member of GCOGH. Follow this link to get started.
  2. Leave your thoughts about the site below in the comments, along with a valid email so I can contact you if you win!
Giveaway closes Friday, July 1, and winner will be announced on July 4. Open to international readers as well.

Once you're there, be sure to follow me and check out the contents of my closet (any outfit suggestions?). I recommend clicking over to the GCOGH blog as well.

So what you do think of Go Chic or Go Home?

  1. This is a great idea. I wonder if it will help me be more creative with the clothes I already have. I feel like I wear jeans *all* the time. This is my mid-year resolution. To wear jeans less!

  2. This is such a cool idea! I've been wanting to get more creative with clothing combos and better at accessorizing. I'm very visual and I love the idea of using this site to come up with outfits.

  3. What a great idea! I've recently lost some weight and don't have as many clothes to pick from, nor do I want to buy much as I'm still dropping pounds, so I hope this will help me see what outfits I can create from what I have.

  4. I am signed up and started adding to my pages. I think it will be helpful to shop for new items, but I don't think I'll upload my closet to it. That would take a while. But maybe it could happen slowly over many months and it would be a great tool for assembling outfits.

  11. I started using GCOGH a few weeks ago and I LOVE it! And I'm with you--I had no idea how much clothes I have and it's taking me a long time to upload it all! So far, just have shirts and a few dresses. Guess I should get some pants and shoes up soon so I can actually make an outfit!

  12. I've been a member for a few weeks and it's completely addictive! I didn't really think I had that much stuff in my closet, but it's taken me hours to catalogue everything nonetheless. It's been super helpful though, I love having my entire closet at my fingertips and the community is just lovely and supportive. LOVE GCOGH!

  13. I think the site makes cataloging your wardrobe really easy. I just moved, so as I unpack, I'll build out my wardrobe and hopefully have a lot of fun putting outfits together.

  15. I'm really excited about Go Chic or Go Home, but I haven't had a chance to use it much. (I'm desperately trying to finish my dissertation very rapidly) I have lots of trouble visualizing outfit before I try them on, and this seems like a perfect tool to help me see how something will look before I put it on! So far, it looks like a fairly intuitive, well-designed site!

Also, I'm about to move to Florida myself, only I'll be a bit north of you in Jupiter.

  19. This site is great! I could definitely use feedback and recommendations on outfits. My husband doesn't always have the best advice and even if my dog could talk, he's not very objective.

  20. Hi Angeline!
I joined GCOGH about a month ago, and I absolutely love it! Photographing my wardrobe was a learning experience for me. I have a better sense of what lurks in my closet and dresser, and I also learned that I needed to treat my wardrobe with respect if I wanted to continue looking fab--I ended up cleaning and polishing shoes, purses, etc. I also got around to mending things and having them altered. I was also able to be honest with myself and purge those items I bought so long ago, but never/hardly wore.

Most of all, I love that I'm connected to a community of people who love developing their personal style, and we're all so supportive and encouraging of one another. I gain inspiration looking at the outfits they put together, and I step out of my box and try new things. I notice that look more polished and presentable (moreso than I already was) no matter how casual the event/venue. As a result, I feel more confident in my daily interactions. I've already invited some friends to join GCOGH as well.

I was excited to see you were a member and immediately followed you. I love your style and love reading your blog.

  21. I signed up for GCOGH recently but haven't had the time to play around with it too much. It seems really cool though. I think it's one of those things we all have wished at one point existed...and now it does!

  22. Signed up, and uploading to my closet! I think it could definitely turn into an addiction (and be very helpful for styling ideas/tips!). My only complaint so far is that I can't add items to my closet by linking to items online. I would love to be able to view items in others' closets and find them easily via online retailers. I don't know if I'll continue doing this, but I'm creating extra work for myself by linking available items in my closet to the online retailers. Who knows if I'll even have anyone view my closet (ha), but if they do I'm making it very helpful! (liz.g.gordon@gmail.com)

Also, whoever's reading this, feel free to "friend" me! I think this site will get old quickly if I have no friends, and I feel kind of weird inviting real life friends (though maybe I will anyone) 'cause I'm not sure if any of them would go for this
