“Los Angeles” unfolds like one of the city’s bougainvillea-lined boulevards at sunrise — hopeful and full of promise. It’s a sampling of the shimmering dream-pop on “99¢ Dreams,” the debut album from TVRQUOISE. The airy vocals belong to Faye Wellman, a Michigan native who moved to L.A. in 2013 after graduating from Berklee College of Music.

(On her cross-country drive she stopped at a place in Boulder, Colo., where the shop owner implored her to buy some turquoise prayer beads. “The woman told me about the stones, how they’re supposed to help open your throat chakra, make you release through your voice, and protect you through travels,” Wellman says. “I just thought, ‘this really resonates with me right now.’” Hence, TVRQUOISE.)

TVRQUIOSE’s debut EP came out a year ago, and also in 2017, Wellman met Patrick Brown, an engineer, producer and owner of Different Fur Studios and Text Me Records. TVRQUOISE soon signed with Text Me Records, which will release the album on Friday.
