According to the official website, Aniplex has announced a recall of the first volume of the Mahou Shoujo Madoka★Magica Blu-ray and DVD due to defects. Aniplex asked the customers to send the disc and the booklet back to the company and they will ship back the fixed items in late May.

Defects found:
1. Mis-recording of Mami's line in the second episode
2. Misprint of lyrics in the extra booklet

Aniplex has recalled an extra booklet of OreImo, an attached CD of Shiki and the disc cover of Seikimatsu Occult Gakuin but this is the first time that defective Blu-ray itself is exchanged. According to Mainichi, 22,000 copies of Madoka Blu-ray have been sold on the release day.

I don't think I'd want to wait like a month to get it back just for those.

Wtf? Anyone who forks out money for something they like, in their right minds, would want the non-defect copy.

There's still value to a defected copies though, maybe one day it will be sold on ebay as a rare collector's treasure.

You'd really be willing to wait a month for a new copy due to one single line mis-read and a misprint in the booklet?

Also, I don't think the "Defect" copies will be rare. I doubt most people will go out of their way to replace them and wait a month for such a minor thing.

If I had the money I'd order a new copy and keep the defect copy.

Why would you not wait a month? Really stupid not to. Plus you can just rip it into your computer and burn it again while you wait.

Because to me, those issues are really minor and I probably wouldn't even notice if it wasn't for a recall notice. I never read booklets, and from what it sounds like of the "mis-recording", its just didn't go by the script correctly or something. Even if I knew Japanese, I doubt I would of been able to tell that unless I watched that 2nd episode several times and memorized all of the lines.

Basically it comes down to "Do I send back this BD and wait a month to get it back, when the 'defects' don't matter to me one bit?", and I say no, it isn't worth it. If it was like bad timing on the audio, or some messed up scenes, or something that actually matters, then sure I would.

That's fine, whatever pleases you.

But why the hell are you buying the Blu-Rays/DVDs if you don't want the extras that I come with it? Well if you support the industry then (Y).

personally, i don't think these are major defects that they have to do a recall.. though i don't have one, since i'm not from Japan, even if i do have that Blu ray disc, a "defect" in the lyrics booklet, or in a single line which i won't understand anyway, is too lame an excuse for a recall..

on another note:

When Mami shows her Soul Gem to Madoka and Sayaka, she says "They [Soul Gems] are created when a girl chosen by Kyubey forms a contract". In the defective BD version, she repeats what she earlier said (it was one of the first lines in her apartment) - "Being chosen by Kyubey means you're involved in this".

Apart from being quite nonsensical, it also means the talk doesn't flow, because Sayaka then asks what the contract is ;)

EDIT: BTW, if you're interested in the booklet lyrics mistake part, see http://wiki.puella-magi.net/See_You_Tomorrow

It doesn't bother me too much, so I will keep my copy. I might get another copy though later down the line though.(Not an obsessive collector but I've been getting quite a few things.
Looking at posts on the Internet wouldn't bother me so much if people didn't also mix up he and she.

Still, the only defect that I find worthy of recall is the line they messed up. Misprinting lyrics is extremely normal actually, just look at music album booklets more closely and you will see.

I thought some BDs sold 100000 easily in the first week.
Was that a thread only for Anime BDs?

But really, recalling for such small mistakes? Wow.
Dunno how its in Japan, but here in Germany nothing is without mistakes. And no one gives a damn.

It's a very popular series. Mantaining top quality is the most important task they now have. And considering all the work SHAFT has put into the BD/DVD releases, I say they take it very seriously.
