OGDEN, Utah -- Weber State University women's basketball coach Bethann Ord is proud to announce the hiring of Devan Newman as an assistant coach.

Newman joins the Wildcat staff after spending the past three seasons at the University of Louisville, most recently as one of the team's assistant coaches. She also spent two seasons as Special Assistant to Head Coach Jeff Walz, and a season as a graduate assistant with the Cardinals.

"Devan is going to be a great addition to my staff," Ord said. "She is a young, up-and-coming star that I have had the opportunity to work with for the last three years at Louisville. She is also a coach's daughter who grew up on the court."

While working with the Cardinals, Newman assisted with workouts, focusing on individual player development, and assisting with recruiting, academic services, and game preparation. As Special Assistant, she worked alongside the Director of Basketball Operations in coordinating the team's travel and daily activities.

"Devan will help in every facet of the program," Ord added. "She has always had a great rapport with both current and former players. She is a tireless worker, and shares our vision to take Weber State to new heights."

Newman also worked with the Canadian National team as a team escort during the summer of 2008. She organized meals and activities for the team while they were in Las Vegas. She also accompanied the team to practices, shootaround and games while acting as a troubleshooter. She also served as a project employee during the NBA All-Star Weekend, assisting the basketball operations department with the organization and execution of player logistics for the weekend. In the summer of 2007 Newman served as a team Liason for the FIBA Americas Tournament in Las Vegas. She accompanied the Canadian Federations Team to all the tournament events. She managed communication between the tournament organizing committee and the team.

She has also volunteered for two Basketball Without Border trips with the NBA. She traveled to Paris, France in the summer of 2006 and to Beijing, China in the summer of 2009. Newman assisted NBA
personnel in the implementation and management of the community service projects.

Newman received her Master's of Science in sport administration from the University of Louisville in June of 2009. She earned her Bachelor of Science in business administration, with a concentration in sports business, from the University of Oregon in 2007.

She is excited to be a part of the Wildcat family and eager to get started with summer camps, starting June 10th and running through June 18th.
