DONG Energy looking at $590M ethanol project in Denmark

August 31, 2011 |

In Denmark, DONG Energy is exploring investing in a new bioenergy complex with additional local partners in what is being called Maabjerg Energy Concept that will analyze building a straw-based ethanol plant among other sources in the western Jutland region. The partners are investing $7.55 million in the feasibility study which should determine viability in the next 15 months.

The project could cost as between $390 million and $580 million with 13 million gallons of annual production seen by 2016. As ethanol only uses about 25% of the straw, the facility would also include biogas and biomass-fired energy production.
