An HBO spokesperson confirms to The Hollywood Reporter that acting vet Liam Cunningham is joining the series, as first reported by EW.
Cunningham plays Davos Seaworth, a former smuggler who earned the nickname the “Onion Knight” for his history of smuggling onions among other things. He’s knighted and becomes a great supporter and confidante to Lord Stannis Baratheon (Dillane).
The Irish actor’s TV and film credits go back to the early-1990s. He appeared in Starz’s Camelot and starred in the BBC One series, Outcasts. His film resume includes 2010’s Clash of the Titans, The Wind that Shakes the Barley, and Dog Soldiers.
Cunningham is repped by Management 360 and Sarah Camlett at Independent Talent Group.
Game of Thrones is based on the A Song of Ice and Fire novels by author George R. R. Martin.
