Access Link Data Generated Outside of bit.ly

Several Twitter clients allow users to enter their bit.ly credentials so they can get personalized tracking data. Tweetdeck, Twitterfeed, and Seesmic let registered bit.ly users enter their API Key. This allows users to see click totals and other tracking data about their links.

  • Tweetdeck:

In the application, go to Settings/Services and under “bitly” select “Get Your API Key”. You must have a bit.ly account and be signed in for this to work well.

  • Twitterfeed:

From your Dashboard, either edit an existing feed or create a new one. Next to “Shorten Link Through: bit.ly”, select “bit.ly settings”. In the fields, enter your API Key.

  • In the application, select the gear icon at the bottom left corner. Under Services select “http://bit.ly” and enter your Username and your API Key.

  • Mobile bit.ly

There’s a simple mobile version of bit.ly available at m.bit.ly, great if you need to access bit.ly links you’ve saved for later. If you’re a Blackberry user, one of our partners has cooked up something here.

Convert Signed Out Links to Your Signed In History

Links shortened from the bit.ly home page when you’re signed out won’t show up in your Signed In History. Also, these links won’t be unique to you. This tool will pull in links from your signed out home page (these are cookied on your browser) into your account. Go to your Account settings, and locate the section titled “History Import”.
