AMES, Iowa - Iowa State head women's basketball coach Bill Fennelly will begin treatment for an invasive cancerous lesion on his vocal cords after doctors found it during a recent exam.
He will undergo radiation treatments for five weeks beginning later this month and doctors indicate a full recovery is expected.
"It is important for me to face this health challenge head on and continue to work with my staff and student-athletes," Fennelly said. "My family and I appreciate the support of our friends and Cyclone Nation."
Fennelly, entering his 17th season as Cyclone coach, has received approval from his doctors and family to continue coaching without interruption.
Fennelly and Iowa State will have no further comment. Additionally, Iowa State practices will be closed until further notice.
