Scotland

Many text books start the history of Scotland with the arrival of the Romans in the AD 79, as if that were the point that the "lump of rock" known as Scotland suddenly appeared.

It would however be fair to state that this was the first WRITTEN account of Scotland with its rich heritage of Scottish poetry, song and tales of intrigue .

Agricola was the Roman general who first invaded along with his many scribes with the main one being the historian Tacitus. Perhaps, slightly tongue in cheek, this was not the first invasion of the named Italians into Scotland.

The country which is now referred to as Scotland has been continuously, albeit sparsely, inhabited for 10,000 years and was populated by small groups of hunter-gatherers and semi nomadic tribes who had settled around the coastline.
