THIS MAP IS NO LONGER UPDATED

Instead, you can find the updated Toronto residents' association map over here, where it's now maintained by Dave Meslin.

WHAT IS THIS? Simple: a map of every one of Toronto's residents' associations and neighbourhood groups—the organizations that represent the people who live in a certain geographic area, whether that's a single street or dozens of blocks. Just find where you live, and click the gray shape on top of it. If your area isn't represented by anyone, maybe you should talk to your neighbours about starting one?

WHY BOTHER? Toronto's got plenty of residents' associations and neighbourhood groups, but they're not collected anywhere, and many of them don't have names you could easily guess. (If you live in one of the condo buildings at Bay and St. Joseph, for instance, you probably don't know that your residents' association is called the Bay Cloverhill Community Association.) What that means, in practical terms, is there's often no easy way to quickly find out who represents you, and no easy way to get involved to make a difference where you live. This map aims to help make that very, very easy.

WHO MADE THIS? Well, I'm David Topping, a Toronto journalist. (I'm a former staff writer at The Grid and a former editor-in-chief of Torontoist. You can follow me on Twitter, or read my blog, if you'd like.) But this map was built with the help of dozens of people who, together, know much more than I ever could, from boardmembers of residents' groups to someone who just happens to live within the boundaries of a group I hadn't heard of or found myself.

HEY, YOU MISSED SOMETHING! Great—tell me about it! This map is an ongoing project, and only gets better with your help. If I've made an error, or missed an active association or group, please take a second to email me, at dstopping@gmail.com.

CAN I USE THIS? For research, for making a map of your own, for sharing it with people where you live, for another project I haven't thought of: yes, by all means. I just ask that you acknowledge this map and me in some way in whatever you create; that you include a link to this page (you can use either j.mp/torontoresidents or the URL in the address bar above); and that you email me to let me know how you've used it.
