Various Positions Book Review

Georgia is a ninth grader and very naive ballet dancer. She decides to try out for the Toronto Academy . She befriends dancer number 60. She gets in to the Academy , and from there she changes in many ways.
Her dad is always busy with work, and her mom is fighting depression. She is friends with her half sister Isabel. She is also making friends with some of the other ballet dancers at her school. Her instructor Roderick is tough but firm in the class.

Georgia during this time, goes through many positions like ballet with her choices and questioning more things of her family life, her parents, and more curious about her sexuality.

This book was interesting , and it was more sexual that I thought it would be. It was like a train wreck that I couldn't stop reading from because I wanted to know what was going to happen to the family, and with Georgia. This was a ballet book, but what would happen if a person became obsessed or attracted to a teacher. This was touched on lot due to her parents situation or an article on the web. The story was about a teacher who fell in love with a student.  Also the daughter starts looking at some porn sites because she wants to become sexy for her teacher Roderick. Her parents are absent , and not really parenting.

I felt dirty after reading this book. I understand that this is a YA book , but this could have easily been a adult book with all the content. Another topic brought up was body image because one of girls wants to stay thin , and even though they did a class for the students..it still not noticed til someone has go to the hospital.

This book was a Train wreck and I was hoping that the character would speak up more with her parents or even with her friends. I wouldn't let my tween daughter read this book. After watching Black Swan , I can say that this book reminded me of it , to some degree.

  1. This sounds like it had potential. I have a hard time with sex in my YA, espcially when characers are as young as this one is.

    1. Yes it had potential or I hoped that it did, but if focused more on the sex than about dance. Yes she was very young and thats what made this story even more hard to read.

  3. Black Swan was overly focused on sex too IMO. Not that body image and control issues regarding sex don't take place but I wished it wasn't the sole focus.
This book does have a very pretty cover.

    1. Yeah I didn't like it all about the sex either from Black swan. I not a prude in any sense but this book made me feel dirty.

  4. I did feel like this had potential but then the sexual stuff just got to be too much (and too often) for the plot to really be noticed. It wasn't an enjoyable or fun read, sadly.

I do like your review, though - linked in on mine
