Body of Pinay shot, killed in Virginia to be repatriated this week - PHL Embassy

Philippine officials will help repatriate this coming week the remains of a Filipina-American who was shot dead in a wholesale store in Virginia last May. According to a tweet from the Philippine Embassy in Washington, Ambassador Jose Cuisia Jr. assured the family of Mylene de Leon-Scott that they were facilitating the repatriation of her remains. Cuisia had himself paid his final respects Saturday night (US time) to de Leon-Scott, who police fatally shot at a Costco store in Sterling, Virginia. He also extended his condolences to de Leon-Scott's former husband, two daughters and uncle, the embassy added. "Cuisia expressed hope that authorities would soon conclude their investigation and release the results," the embassy said. Filipino-American community groups were outraged over the fatal shooting of de Leon-Scott, calling for an impartial probe into the incident. Cuisia, in an earlier news release, said that the Embassy “shares the concerns expressed by Ms. Scott's family in the Philippines and the members of the Filipino-American Community that law enforcement officials may have responded with disproportionate force.” A Washington Post report on the killing said that a sheriff’s deputy shot and killed Scott after she allegedly came at him with a knife. — DVM, GMA News
