Shonda Rhimes‘ and Betsy Beers‘ Shondaland banner has made its first sale of the development season.
ABC has handed out a script commitment to drama Protect & Survive, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.
The ensemble drama centers on the last LAPD precinct fighting to hang on in Los Angeles after a massive disaster changed life as we know it.
Person of Interest‘s David Slack will pen the script and executive produce alongside Rhimes and Beers via the duo’s overall deal with ABC Studios. (Shondaland inked a new four-year overall deal with the studio behind Grey’s Anatomy, Scandal and How to Get Away With Murder in May.)
The drama marks the first sale of the season from Shondaland, which this month will take over ABC’s Thursday night lineup with Grey’s Anatomy and Scandal in their new time slots — 8 p.m. and 9 p.m., respectively — and the Rhimes-produced Pete Nowalk rookie drama How to Get Away With Murder at 10 p.m.
Shondaland has focused on developing with other producers of late. Last season, the banner had multiple sales, including a cop drama and a comedy.
Shondaland is with ICM Partners; Slack is with UTA and attorney Bruce Gellman.
