Julie Benz Joins Hawaii Five-0 as SFPD Cop/Romantic Interest for [Spoiler]

Julie Benz (Defiance) will recur as Jennifer, a visiting San Francisco police detective who forms a string relationship with Chin.I was just talking to Julie Benz about how especially arctic the Defiance set in Toronto was this past winter. And apparently as reward for toughing it out, she can now make camp in the Aloha State.
TVLine has learned that Benz is joining CBS’ Hawaii Five-0 in the recurring role of Jennifer, a detective from San Francisco who is heading up a task force modeled after Five-0. As the visiting detective does her research, she will form a strong connection with Chin (played by Daniel Dae Kim).
“She’s on loan from the San Francisco Police Department and she’s going to end up, we think at least, having a relationship with Chin Ho,” showrunner Peter M. Lenkov told TVLine as part of our in-depth Fall Preview Q&A. “Maybe there’s going to be a romance there.”
In addition to her three-season run as Defiance‘s Mayor Amanda Rosewater, Benz’s TV credits include A Gifted Man, Dexter, No Ordinary Family, Desperate Housewives, Buffy and Angel, and Roswell.
Hawaii Five-0 opens Season 6 on Friday, Sept. 25 at 9/8c.

Defiance has an unconventional shooting schedule, and it’s unclear how large a commitment Five-0 will be, so it doesn’t necessarily mean anything.
It means… she will be shooting several episodes of H50 during the hiatus?

Defiance is done. After what happened on “Hoa ‘inea,” I say worry about whether or not Julie Benz finds a home at Hawaii Five-O.

Gotta be kinda weird, to be married yet your job is to go around the country (and out of country) and pretend to be lovers with someone and makeout with them and maybe even have nude scenes/sex scenes with them. There are certain actresses (not saying her) that just seem to go from show to show playing the hookup or girlfriend part for a few episodes then onto another show. Odd. (not necessarily gender specific, odd for an actor too, not just an actress).

Well, the article did make me think of it, her being paid to makeout with “Nolan” then flying to Hawaii to makeout and be a GF for a few weeks then fly back to Canada for more Defiance to makeout with more “Nolan” lol. Between all this going home to kiss her real lover (husband). Just saying that’s odd, is it not?
If we’re taking a bleak worldview, I guess you could say that of all actors in general. You go where they tell you and then have to become whatever they tell you to be. It’s not quite like being a courtesan or a porn star, but it probably feels like it from time to time.

That is really my only point, just a thought not an accusation or anything. Must be kinda weird to fly to a city, play someones lover, make out with them (maybe more depending on the show) then fly home to your real husband then fly to your show that you star on and make out with someone else. Not judging it per-se, just must be weird.
It’s calls typecasting. If that’s the only job your agent/manager can get for you, there’s not much you can do beside maintaining your profile and earn a living.
I wouldn’t say that per-se, there are a lot of actresses and actors that go from tv show to tv show, a pretty sweet gig (to guest star a lot on a lot of diff shows) and play the boyfriend or the girlfriend.
Before she got Vikings that’s what Katheryn Winnick was on Bones, the season long girlfriend then gone.
This is just acting, it’s make believe. When people kiss on tv it doesn’t mean they have to get married.
I feel like if this works, we might be getting an SFPD offshoot.

Whatever happened to Leilani? I know we haven’t seen her since season four, but I really liked her.
I heard the actress who played Leilani got pregnant so perhaps she was written out of the show for maternity reasons and it was not certain if the actress was going to return or not due to that. I alos like Leilani
Missed Julie Benz so much when she was on Dexter.

They didn’t really interact, because Gavin was Lilah’s Wolfram & Hart rival in Seasons 3 and 4.
As long as we still have the braid of justice in Defiance, I am fine with whatever else she does.
Love this spoiler! Loved her on Angel and I can’t wait to see her interact with Daniel Dae Kim… I would love a flirty, happy Chin.
