Asians to Become Largest Immigrant Group in U.S. by 2055

A new study from the Pew Research Center finds Asians will become the largest immigrant group in the country by 2055.

The report projects Asians will make up 36% of all immigrants compared to 34 percent for Hispanics. That trend will continue into 2065 when the percentage of Asian immigrants will increase to 38% while the percentage of Hispanics falls to 31%.

This change dates back to the 1965 Immigration and Nationality Act. The percentage of Hispanics in the overall U.S. population increased from 4% in 1965 to 18% today. Asians increased from 1% to 6%.

Asian Americans are currently the fastest growing racial group in the country.

By 2065 they are expected to make up 14% of the country from 6% today.  Hispanics will rise to 24% from 18% today.
