Call of Duty: Ghosts nets more than $1 billion in sales into retail day one

Call of Duty: Ghosts has sold more than $1 billion in sales worldwide into retail in the one day period following its launch, Activision announced today.

According to a press statement from Activision, Call of Duty: Ghosts is currently sitting in the number one spot on Xbox Live as the most-played game. The company also confirmed that sessions in Ghosts on Xbox 360 have already exceeded the average playing time for both Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare during the same time period post-launch.

The game became available to consumers at midnight on Tuesday morning, with 15,000 stores worldwide holding midnight launches.

"Call of Duty is by far the largest console franchise of this generation," Activision Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick said in a press statement. "More people have played Call of Duty this year than ever before, logging four billion hours of gameplay. And in the last 12 months, Call of Duty: Black Ops 2, including its digital content, generated more revenues than any other console game ever has in a single year. Although it is too early to assess sell-through for Call of Duty: Ghosts, it's launching at a time when the franchise has never been more popular."

"This is the must have launch title for the next generation of consoles, and we expect Call of Duty: Ghosts to be the most successful launch title for the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 by a wide margin," added Activision CEO Eric Hirshberg. "In fact, according to GameStop, Call of Duty: Ghosts is their most pre-reserved next gen title."

Call of Duty: Ghosts is currently available for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Windows PC and Wii U. PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions will launch alongside each console on Nov. 15 and Nov. 22, respectively.
