The veteran broadcast journalist and producer Laura Ling is joining Discovery’s digital wing with the mission to create more online-native content for the the company’s web presence.
Ling will be Director of Development for the digital networks, which currently generate 150 million streams a month to online viewers. The 110 online series and channels that are part of Discovery Digital include such big sites as Sourcefed, Revision3, Animalist and The DeFranco Network.
She most recently was host and a reporter on two documentary series for E!, including E! Investigates and Society X with Laura Ling. She previously was VP of the journalism department at Current TV, where she also was a correspondent with the documentary show Vanguard. She also has worked at KCET, Channel One and MTV, and won both an Emmy and an Edward R. Murrow Award for her work.
Ling’s sister is also a notable broadcast journalist, Lisa Ling of CNN’s This Is Life documentary series. Laura Ling wrote about her sister’s arrest and captivity in North Korea while working on a story.
