Now in its 13th year, the Landscape Photographer of the Year competition is open to both professionals and amateurs and showcases exquisite images of landscapes and cityscapes from around the UK. There are four categories, plus a youth competition for under-18s, and winners share a prize fund worth £20,000, with a top prize of £10,000.

This year’s overall winner, and recipient of the title of Landscape Photographer of the Year, is Chris Frost, for his magnificent image of a spring day in Woolland Woods in Dorset (overleaf, top right). “This was the third visit to the area in a matter of days,” Frost says. “On the previous days, devoid of morning mists, the light had been harsh and unappealing, but the third day delivered stunning
