BENGALURU -- The Indian government has decided to scrap three contentious farm bills passed by parliament in September last year, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi said in an address to the nation on Friday.
The bills sparked widespread protests from farmers, particularly in the northern states of Punjab and Haryana. Thousands of farmers have been camping on the borders of the capital, New Delhi, for more than a year demanding the legislation be repealed.
