24/7 Wearable

The vívofit 4 activity tracker follows your progress 24/7 and lets you ditch the charging cord, thanks to its 1+ year battery life. It’s also safe for the pool or the shower, and its always-on color display is bright and easy to see, even in the sunlight. Let your personality shine through by customizing the screen with color themes, watch faces and text phrases or by swapping out the band for a different one. Accessory bands are available in various colors and styles.

Convenience on Your Wrist

With vívofit 4, we’re bringing you several new tools designed to make life a little more convenient. Use the weather widget for a quick, illustrated look at what the day is going to bring. Set an alarm in the app that will go off on your device, or even set a countdown timer right from your wrist to remind you when it’s time to turn off the oven. Misplaced your phone? vívofit 4 can help you with that, too.

Get Moving, the Easy Way

No need to manually start and stop your activity timer — Move IQ has you covered. It can automatically capture and classify different activities such as walking, running, biking, swimming and using an elliptical. For walks and runs, it can even start an activity timer automatically. Review the captured data later on Garmin Connect.

Personalized Activity Tracking Plus Motivation

vívofit 4 inspires you to get up and move. In addition to tracking steps, distance, calories burned and sleep, it also tracks periods of inactivity. A colored move bar fills up to alert you if you’ve been stationary for too long. Reset it by walking for a couple of minutes. vívofit 4 even learns your current activity level then assigns an attainable daily step goal. As you meet your milestones, it will adjust your goal for the next day, gradually nudging you toward a healthier lifestyle.

Share and Compete

Throughout your day, vívofit 4 periodically syncs to Garmin Connect. The Garmin Connect app makes it easier than ever to beat yesterday. Bold, colorful activity cards provide all your statistics at a glance. Scroll down to easily compare today’s totals to past results, or tap in for more detailed information. Activities and other health measurements recorded by your device are presented in vivid detail. And the data you see is customized just for you and the way you move, without all the filler.

Step Challenges with Your Kids

Use the Toe-to-Toe feature to challenge your kids to a step competition. Your vívofit 4 activity tracker can wirelessly connect to your child’s nearby vívofit jr. 2 or even another vívofit 4 to kick off an instant timed step competition. It's all controlled right from the wrist, and once the competition is over, you'll both see the total number of steps during the one-on-one challenge and find out who triumphed.

    Fine but not long lasting.
The vivofit 4 is fine. For the most part. However it has some drawbacks.Only tracks long stretches of sleep, which is annoying because I sometimes suffer from insomnia or have a nap, and it doesn’t count shorter stretches of sleep or sleep separated by long stretches of wakefulness. I’d like something that tracks all my sleep no matter how far apart it is.Step count is great. Though I’m sure it misses lots when I’m pushing a baby carriage or a shopping cart, it still tracks some which is good.I like that I’m able to set my own step goals. This is my second vivofit 4. The first died shortly after replacing the batteries at the one year mark. I wear the watch in the shower, as is indicated as possible in the description. But maybe some water got in.This one lasted about a month longer but when I went to replace the batteries I noticed a huge crack around one screw hole. Also found some rust in the battery bed.I’ll probably invest in something a little longer lasting next time.

I have had a Garmin Vivofit 4 for several years prior to this and, while it was still working well, the metal button you push to change functions, no longer worked. I bought THIS particular version, despite it being more expensive and having fewer functions than Vivofit 7, because I am familiar with how it works and monitors what I want monitored. I LOVE this device!! It is battery operated and the battery lasts 1+ year. (I got replacement battery at Batteries Plus where I paid for lifetime battery replacement for just $25.) The size of the face of the watch is smaller than Apple watch. (People often comment how nice the size is.) The bracelet is perfect for my small wrist. Again, easy to use/maintain. If wanting more functions, you can get Vivofit 7 for cheaper price. Either way, you'll love this device!!

I love this watch. It's such a slim, easy, and practical piece of equipment. It is much less bulkier than all the fancier smart watches, and has all the important capabilities. It is a great fitness tracker and has options for all types of sports including biking which was important for me. The sleep tracker is accurate and is really cool. You can even get text messages. Slim, effective, easy to use, and nice looking.

    Report
Reviewed in the United States on May 24, 2022
Revised review: The VivoFit4 started losing time (up to 10 minutes a day) after I'd owned it for just five months. I replaced the batteries (which are supposed to last a year), and the watch was back to working well. A couple of months later, it started losing time again. Per postings on the Garmin website, I removed the batteries, cleaned/gently-scraped all of the metal contact points to the batteries, and added a thin layer of petroleum jelly to them. Everything worked fine for another few months, although I needed to replace the band, which started to fall apart. Then, the watch began losing time again, only this time, it was resetting my steps to zero mid-day and losing hours at a time. I repeated all steps above to no avail. So,13 months into ownership, I've spent about $35 in repairs on a non-working watch, including the last set of batteries from a reputable local shop to guarantee they weren't counterfeits.

The good news: I went to their warranty site, and Garmin is sending me a replacement unit despite being a month out of warranty. The customer service was helpful and competent, but there wasn't an apology for the time/$ costs noted above. They are sending me a replacement core unit (i.e., minus new band), and it should arrive within a few days.

I still love having a watch that tracks pretty accurately my steps and sustained activity with a unit that doesn't require frequent charging, but if the replacement doesn't go at least a year, I probably won't purchase another one of these.

Original review: This is my third vivofit. The other two (models 1 and 2) each lasted for almost five years despite around the clock wear, abuse, and frequent water immersion. I have found that the watch bands are durable for a couple of years and then quickly disintegrate; offbrand, quality replacements are inexpensive on Amazon. The huge plus over other options remains the vivofit's once-a-year-or-so battery change. I like that the vivofit4 is smaller/thinner than previous models (more like a band than a watch, despite having a watch whose look can be configured in a bunch of different ways with the app). Also, it seems to more reliably sync on its own with the Connect app on my phone, and I like that the newer models detect intensity exercise and automatically sync this activity. For my work's health plan, which uses the Virgin Pulse app, I need to do nothing to automatically log activity. Earning my monthly insurance reduction thus requires nothing other than wearing the watch. My only complaint about the vivo4 fit is that when I am out for a walk or run and the intensity workout timer starts (after 10 minutes or so), I can't see what time it is while that timer is running [Update: to this last point: It is possible to change what information is displayed in what order when the watch is in activity mode--this is done within the Connect app on my phone].

Reviewed in the United States on February 7, 2018
I have a Vivofit 2. It was tricky to pair, but after a lot of screwing around it did, and I like the battery powered aspect. These do everything I need.

But it's bulky, and I tore it up pretty good so the screen is hard to read. I figure if a Vivofit 2 works, the 4 would work. Yeah, I know that MOST of the reviews here say it won't pair, but what do THOSE people know? I paired a model 2, I can make it work.

One laptop and 4 different Android phones later, and I find it necessary to admit I am a complete failure. This crappy little lump of plastic won't pair with anything.

My Vivofit 2 paired with the laptop immediately - I have an Ant Stick but never connected the 2 to my laptop, just my desktop. 30 seconds later, it was paired. It was on my Motorola G5S already, so I paired it with with a backup LG G4. Easy peasy. My BIL's Samsung Galaxy 8 Edge. Boom. Like butter. My sister's iPhone 6. Took a minute instead of 30 seconds, but it paired right up.

The Vivofit 4? Nothing. It paired with nothing. Now I know before, with the Vivofit 2, I had to use the Ant Stick and pair to the PC to make certain a software update was pushed to it, and that fixed pairing issues.

Today, I started to pair with the laptop and the Vivofit 4 put a symbol on the screen that doesn't exist in ANY of their documentation - anywhere - but I presumed it meant I was getting an update. 4 hours later it still had the same symbol. I lost track of time, but when the screen went to the step counter I tried again...and it wouldn't pair with anything.

Garmin's support number actually gave a busy signal. When was the last time anyone got a busy signal calling tech support? I might not be wrong to say this is due to the volume of poor suckers like me who bought this piece of junk. Their chat was so backed up I was never offered a response other than "call (uh, right) or send and email." I sent an email but by that time, having wasted so many hours, I vented and called them names (not fair - the poor sucker who reads what I wrote isn't to blame. I should apologize.

So yeah, I give up. These Vivofits just tell me how far I walked, how many steps I took, make up a bunch of BS about calories burned, and that's about it. I quit. I have an app on my phone now for that, I don't need this little plastic bit of dog$#!t.

UPDATE: Just wanted to thank the preschoolers at Garmin for never once - not once - attempting to respond to my technical support queries. And so, I bought a Fitbit Alta HR. Here's a review:

It was a little more pricey than the Garmin, but I got it home, had it synced to my phone is 45 seconds, and it's worked perfectly since. I have no idea why I got the HR, because until now I wasn't interested in heart rate...but now I am curiously interested in my heart rate. Go figure.

Narrower but taller then the Garmin, and still unobtrusive. It seems to better understand when I am sleeping and when I am watching television.

Rather than starting a stopwatch to grab activity data, it just automatically figures any time I am moving well for at least ten minutes that's an activity and it immediately records it as such. I really like that. I think the Vivofit 4 does that, but as I found the Vivofit 4 I purchased actually does nothing useful at all I never got to find out.

The screen is legible. I have to tap it to see it, but the screen on the Garmin was pretty awful anyway, even when backlit.

The only edge the Garmin has is the battery. I will have to charge my beautiful, extremely useful, easy-to-pair and perfectly functioning Fitbit Alta HR every 4-5 days. The cheesy, non-functional, impossible to pair, even more impossible-to-read-the-screen-of Garmin Vivofit 4 will be a total piece of garbage for a full year before having the change the battery in order to suffer through another full year of knowing what an awful piece of crap it is.

Lesson learned: do not by a Garmin Vivofit 4. Buy a Fitbit Alta HR. This should be a constitutional amendment.

ANOTHER UPDATE: Just to help people make their choices I wanted to add that it's been 2 weeks. I still have not had a response from Garmin to my email queries regarding pairing issues, queries which were a desperate attempt to get *some* sort of an answer since their contact center number gave a busy signal and their chat service was not available. My Fitbit Alta HR, however, works great. Garmin' laziness, dysfunctional support structure, and hysterically non-functional wearable product is the best marketing Fitbit ever had. You can't pay people to suck so bad they drive customers to you, but with Garmin the wearable market got a bonus.

5.0 out of 5 stars Works well like the previous versions but the display is VERY small!

I miss the older Vivofits. They were reliable and good battery life. I though I would give this a try even though I hate downloading apps on my phone. Be warned....the display on this tracker is very small! I have good vision and don't wear eye glasses or contact lens, but I find I have to almost squint to see the steps or calaries at the bottom of the time clock. Steps are pretty accurate as the previous version. I have yet to see how long this original batter will last.

I dont know when the battery life started but my Garmin Express says it needs replacing. Where do I get a new batery? Otherwise everything is fine and I like the watch. The delivery was in time but over packaged.

5.0 out of 5 stars Cumplió expectativas, vale la pena!
