With almost no surprises predicted for Oscar night, the last frontier of anticipation has got to be Anne Hathaway’s co-hosting wardrobe – whipped together by pregnant super-stylist Rachel Zoe, who’s worked with the actress from the beginning of her career. Some media outlets are reporting five changes for Hathaway during the predicted 3 hour 15 minute show. THR’s heard seven. Even though Zoe sat out the fall shows last week and this, this doesn’t mean she didn’t get email previews from designers.
Our predictions of what Hathaway might wear?
Here’s an educated guess:
• Armani Prive – Hathaway is a close friend of the brand and the designer, and has worn Giorgio’s designs to the Oscars in the past.
• Christian Dior – We know representatives for the brand and designer John Galliano are in town, working on something big. However, given Galliano’s Paris bar outburst at the end of this week,
and the possibility of the Dior runway show getting cancelled – everything Dior is up in the air
• Chanel Couture – the great Parisian brand has not dressed one nominee or presenter this awards season yet. And we know all the Chanel Couture gowns are at the Rodeo Drive store this week.
• Tom Ford – the designer’s Rodeo Drive boutique opened Thursday night, and his looks are in big demand
• Valentino – the stars’ worn Valentino Couture in the past, and with Mr. Valentino in town – who no longer designs the brand – it might be a nice homage to a great retired designer
• A Rachel Zoe designed gown – Anne’s longtime stylist just launched her own line at New York fashion week. Wouldn’t this be a great way to get attention for it?
• Oscar de la Renta – Zoe is an obvious fan of this great American designer, and he sure does make a heck of a ballgown. Anne’s got to wear at least one very formal princess-style ballgown.
• A wild card designer- Balmain. Givenchy Couture. Azzedine Alaia. Marchesa. Zoe is sure to throw one off-kilter and avant-garde gown in there somewhere, just for good measure – and to
appease the obsessive fashion media.
One thing’s for absolute sure: These gowns have been in production since the day Anne Hathaway was announced as a co-host. And – this for certain – they didn’t come cheap. And she isn’t paying for them.
