Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak resigns

Egyptian Vice President Omar Suleiman announced that the embattled president Hosni Mubarak has stepped down after 17 days of protests calling for his ouster. Suleiman also said that the supreme commander of the Egyptian army will now be the de facto leader of Egypt.

Demonstrators in Cairo’s Tahrir Square broke out in cheers as the announcement was made on Egyptian State television. “The people made Mubarak resign,” they shouted.

Opposition leader Mohamed ElBaradei has said that “this is the most beautiful day in my life.”

Egyptian media reported that Mubarak had taken his family and left Cairo. He is now possibly in Sharm el-Sheikh.

Quotes and Sayings

About the Region, Islam and cultural totalitarianism...

The ruling to kill the Americans and their allies—civilians and military—is an individual duty for every Muslim who can do it in any country in which it is possible to do it, in order to liberate the al-Aqsa Mosque and the holy mosque from their grip, and in order for their armies to move out of all the lands of Islam, defeated and unable to threaten any Muslim.
