    GROUND

Welcome to the third annual Favorite Pokémon Tournament here in Pokémon General, where our goal is to determine the favorite Pokémon of the users here at the PokéCommunity! This will be a tournament that lasts several months, where we'll pit almost all the Pokémon from different types together to determine a winner. After we know the winner of each type, we'll add all of those Pokémon to a final poll, where the winner(s) will be crowned champion, and be known as PokéCommunity's favorite Pokémon!

If you haven't had the opportunity, please read the Rules/FAQ to find out more about the tournament:

    Spoiler:

NOTE: Because of the limited number of poll spaces, not all eligible Pokémon have been included. If you want to vote for an unlisted Ground-type, check the "Other Pokémon" option represented by a (?), and leave a post with your vote.

Now that you know what the tournament is all about, what are you waiting for? Polls will remain open until October 30th, so get voting!

  • Nidoking
It was useful in the 1st gen games, it can even learn Surf despite of being weak against Water.

    Gible line
    Garchomp is literally Uber.

  • Gligar line - I've always been a fan of these mons, has a great set of moves, very solid competitively, and had a great story in the anime. Plus its basically a flying scorpion! That's freaking awesome! ^^

Flygon - Already stated my love for it in the Dragon poll

Palipitoad/ Seismitoad - though not the greatest Pokemon, I've always had an affinity for these two. I love the dual typing, comes in pretty handy. One of the better Pokemon to come out of the Unova region imo and pretty solid moveset.

  • Phanpy & Donphan - Not really a fan of the Johto Pokemon, but I can make an exception for the Phanpy line. I love the design of Donphan and it is easily my favourite Ground-type.

Gastrodon - I've used Gastrodon in game and competitively and it can be so useful. I also love how there are two different coloured forms.

Voted for Onix/Steelix, Phanpy/Donphan, and the Rhyhorn line.

I have always loved Onix; it always stuck out in my mind as a kid because it was HUGE compared to everything else. Brock also used one in the anime, so I frequently got to see it, which was nice. Onix was one of those big and impressive Pokemon I just HAD to have on my team, and Steelix is just a nightmare fuel version of Onix. Steelix is badass.

Phanpy I voted for for one reason: "Phanpy, use your Rollout!"
...that scene in the third movie STILL makes me giggle hysterically every time I see it. I'll never get tired of it. I don't much care for the design or anything, but that moment...oh, gawd. Donphan is also quite special, being one of the first second gen Pokemon I ever saw, not counting Ho-Oh, which at the time I thought was a special kind of Moltres. xD

Rhyhorn is just cool. It's another one of those tanky Pokemon I just love the look of, and Rhyperior takes that up to eleven.

  • This was who I voted for.

Sandshrew line: I'm not into most Kanto Pokemon but they are at least cute.

Nidoking / Nidoqueen: I mainly voted for their impressive diversity of moves, and the unique type combinations.

Marshtomp / Swampert: Fave Hoenn starter, 'nuff said. Always my typical choice when I played a Hoenn game.

Trapinch line: Another one of the interesting ones, especially with the design concept being based on the antlion.

Gastrodon: Cute and tanky, and the form difference being based on which side of Sinnoh it's encountered was a neat little feature.

Hippopotas line: I always wanted a hippo Pokemon but one that had sand-based powers was definitely unexpected. Also, Hippopotas is cute.

Drilbur line: A powerful attacker that becomes a menace in a sandstorm, and you have to admit they have cool-sounding names too.

Sandile line: Another line with awesome names, and their abilities are really great as well.

I voted for all 2nd Gen options, that gen had some nice Ground-types.

  • Marshtomp/Swampert - Emerald was my first game, so I gotta pick a Hoenn starter. Both of these guys' designs were awesome, and you can never go wrong with that anti-Electric typing.

Trapinch line - Mainly because Vibrava and Flygon are among my most favorite Pokémon, with the latter being in the top five. And the design progression through the evolution stages is awesome.

Groudon - I may be blinded by nostalgia from Hoenn being my first region, and I may prefer Kyogre over it, but all three of the Weather Trio are glorious, badass beasts, and Groudon was certainly no exception. I can't help but feel happy that it was finally able to be matched up competitively against Kyogre with the introduction of their Primal forms in ORAS. Also, the Primal forms themselves (and M-Rayquaza) are an entirely new level of badass.

Other Pokémon I'm quite fond of and have voted for include the Onix line (an Onix from my old copy of Diamond that I lost is the only encounter of a shiny that I remember. I had caught it too ;_; ), Gligar line, and Zygarde.

  • I personally like the Flygon line and Krookodile line sure Flygon isnt as powerful as Garchomp nor does it have a mega but it was a fav for me in gen 3 and i get so sick of seeing everyone loving Garchomp i think Flygon really deserves some spotlight. Krookodile was my first ground type i used in gen 5 and i love it especially the dark secondary typing because that just makes him 60% more awesome.

  • I'm just gonna say Stunfisk because while there are some others on the list that I like, I'm pretty sure I already voted for them in past polls and/or will vote for them in future polls but lmao no way is Stunfisk high enough on my electric list. It's high enough on my ground list though! I love its derpy design. It's really cute.

  • I went with the Rhyperior line in spite of Rhyperior again. I also voted for Groudon, but it was tough to find something else I really liked. Ground might be one of my least favourite types now that I think about it.

  • Cubone and Marowak - because of their story in-game and in pokemon origins. I also like to draw Cubone a lot when I was a kid.

Trapinch - because of how it can sweep almost any trainer in-game and a lot of good third-gen memories.
