Welcome to the second annual Favorite Pokémon Tournament here in the Pokémon Polls board, where our goal is to determine the favorite Pokémon of the users here at the PokéCommunity! This will be a tournament that lasts several months, where we'll pit almost all the Pokémon from different types together to determine a winner. After we know the winner of each type, we'll add all of those Pokémon to a final poll, where the winner(s) will be crowned champion, and be known as PokéCommunity's favorite Pokémon!

If you haven't had the opportunity, please read the Rules/FAQ to find out more about the tournament:

Spoiler:

NOTE: Because of the limited number of poll spaces, not all eligible Pokémon have been included. If you want to vote for an unlisted Dark-type, check the "Other Pokémon" option represented by a (?), and leave a post with your vote.

Now that you know what the tournament is all about, what are you waiting for? Polls will remain open until October 25th, so get voting!

Just a heads up, but for those looking to vote for Tyranitar, it won the Rock-type poll a few weeks back, so it hasn't been included with the rest of the Dark-type Pokemon. You're free to continue voting for it through the "Other Pokémon" option, but since it's already earned its spot in the finale, I won't be counting any votes for it. Happy voting everyone!

Ran into quite a few Sandiles on my numerous Nuzlocke runs of White 2. Love the typing, love the cries of its evos, just an all-around cool Pokemon line.

I voted for Darkrai, Krookodile, Hydreigon, and Greninja.

Darkrai is cool and gets a sweet move in Dark Void. Krookodile I already explained in the Ground type poll.

Hydreigon is a badass mother****er. So badass that Ghetsis's Hydreigon doesn't give a **** that it's below level 64 and giving you a hard time. It also has a cool and unique typing, and has a great design. I also love its X/Y cry.
....Even though poor Hydreigon can get beaten by a Dedenne.

Greninja. It's a frog. It's a ninja. It gets Protean. Need I say more?

I voted for Poochyena/Mightyena, Umbreon, Houndoom, Krookodile, and Zoroark.

Though my most favorites are obviously Poochyena/Mightyena :3
I just had so much fun/good memories with the pokemon, and I love the design. And moxie-yena sweeps are always fun to watch XD

I voted for the Weavile line. It's my first shiny I ever encountered in the wild (as a Sneasel) and is the quick glass cannon of my team.

I voted for the wonderful Liepard!

I really like how the Unova region has a dog and cat pokemon catchable early to spice up the traditional rodent/bird, and how each rival choosing one or the other as their first catch. It's a really nice dynamic. When I first caught mine I didn't think too much of her, but her design really grew on me since then.

She's based off leopard, a species which hasn't been done before aside from Suicune, arguably. That along with her dark-typing sets her apart from the other countless domesticated cat pokemon, Meowth, Skitty, and Glameow, and dark-typing really fits for the idea of a sneaky cat.

She has a refreshingly simple design in both stages. Her colour scheme is very ingenious: swapping the typical dark-spots-on-yellow fur to instead having yellow-spots-on-dark, to show off her Dark-typing. The combination of purple, yellow, and pink, with emerald eyes is a very appealing colour combination. Admittedly the dark type is one of my lesser-liked types, yet Liepards cheerful colours make me feel very different about her! :pink_tongue:

And let's not forget about her and Purrloin's names. Liepard is a very straightforward name with a simplicity of name's that I really liked growing up with pokemon, such as Squirtle and Gastly. Purloin means to steal, and just sneaking in an 'r'... it fits so well, I can't even put it in words. I've always like these very simple and punny names that a child could connect the dots to, as opposed to names that are just contractions, because they take me back. I know that names vary between languages so they're not universal to the design, but I wanted to express this anyways.

So this is why I love Liepard, and why she is the love I can find amidst the darkness! :pink_love:
and no it has absolutely nothing to do with some broken swagger strategy wait don't look at me like that

My top 5 Dark pokemon:

1. Houndoom. I mean, come on...he is a hell hound. What is not to love? The horns, skull emblem, and exposed bony spine makes the design badass but sort of cute in the same respect. And, can't forget to mention the simple yet effective pointed devil's tail. I was relieved to know his mega evolution actually elevated the original design rather than...okay I will avoid bringing up grievances with many other mega designs. Houndoom really should win being he is the quintessential dark pokemon imo.

2. Mandibuzz. Completely under-appreciated pokemon! I love the bone tied ponytail and bone armor skirt, which contrast the plushy brown coat. Plus the dark black/brown with pink is a nice contrast in color. I think the think I love most is the heavy dark outline around the eye and lashes. Yep, I am the one person who voted Mandibuzz :p

3. Liepard. I love how refined and devious her design is. The markings of the eyes and ears appears like a heavy eye shadow, or fleshy mask. This actually might be my favorite pokemon as far as color palette. The yellow, cyan, purple, and pink work well together, surprisingly. If only she were...more useful ingame. I am hoping she will have a design equally as stealthy, svelte, and sinister with a mega evolution. I knew when I saw Purrloin, I would love whatever design followed.

4. Hydreigon. The design is something I and others have been waiting for GF to make forever! A dragon with multiple head, a hydra. I never expected them to go in this direction however, which was a pleasant surprise to see a dark typing. I love how the arms and hands are the necks and heads of the other dragons, it makes the design more eerie and cohesive. Plus, I love Deino's design, with the covered eyes.

5. Greninja. The tongue scarf has received mixed reception, but I don't understand how that is possible no to love the idea of a ninja frog with a tongue-scarf!! I love the shape of the head with sharp ears and crisp geometric color blocking of the blue, white, and cyan. This is also consistent with the rest of the design, I especially love the cyan x's on his knees. Then the pink tongue and eyes really bring the whole design together.

This one was tough to judge since I don't dislike any of them, barring Spiritomb.

Here's who I voted, and expect a lot of them:

Umbreon: Because... Eeveelutions. Cute and it's a fan favorite.

Murkrow: Useful abilities, and who doesn't love those feather hats? Also I'm a fan of criminal stereotypes which we have a few Dark-type lines based on.

Absol: Again, popular with fans but it also has a majestic-looking Mega.

And pretty much every 5th and 6th Gen member on the list as well, but here's why I love them.

Greninja: My fave of the Kalos starters, the ninja motif and the fact it's the first speedy Water starter is what made it win me over.

Purrloin line: Who doesn't love cats? And these ones surely know how to be an annoyance thanks to their Prankster hidden ability. They always posed a nightmare to me, but they look cool at the same time.

Scraggy line: Very useful abilities, good attacks plus I have a female HA Scrafty on my X copy. Didn't even expect to catch one in the horde I admit, but it's pretty cool I did.

Zorua line: Badass, and I love how it disguises itself as something else with Illusion.

Pangoro: The first proper "panda" Pokemon, and it's a hard hitter. Doesn't help that I like pandas as well, so it was destined to be a fave for me.

Vullaby line: I love how much better these birds got in X/Y thanks to the changes to Defog and Knock Off. They are not only great support Pokemon but I do love how they have accessories made out of bones.

Deino line: I like this line's naming theme, which is based on the German words for one, two and three which also corresponds to how many heads they have. They also have a unique type combination which is really cool, as well as some strong attacks to work with, typical for a pseudo-legend.

Sandile line: Another line with good abilities, and has a nice mix of stats that help it do its job well. Ground/Dark is also a very interesting mix, albeit heavy weakness-wise. And I like how the black around their eyes gives off the image of wearing sunglasses.

Inkay line: Has one of the weirdest evolution methods ever, which basically means you have to flip it upside down. However it becomes really good with Contrary and gets Superpower to take advantage of it. Also, Dark/Psychic was a combination we all wanted for ages.

Pawniard line: Dark/Steel is also a really nice combination type-wise, and it was another one that got better competitively and gets a really awesome ability in Defiant, which can turn it into a destroyer if you mess around with its stats too much.

Been anticipating this one, Dark's hands down one of my favourite types! :) I voted for Umbreon, Houndoom, Honchkrow, Mightyena and Inkay :)

Umbreon's my second favourite Eeveelution (so happy I get to vote for it, this is the first Eeveelution I've voted for on these polls haha - two more to come!); Houndoom I've loved ever since I saw Karen's from the Elite Four, Honchkrow is a boss that I bought Diamond for over Platinum just so I could get the chance to use him haha, Mightyena has a great design and is one of my favourite Hoenn pokés and Inkay's just too adorable haha, was one of my favourite Kalos critters the moment I saw his artwork for the first time :)

Darkrai, definitely. I wasn't such a huge of this Pokémon at first, but it definitely grew on me. At first, I thought of this Pokémon to be evil and whatnot, but after watching its movie--Rise of Darkrai--my opinion had completely changed. It's more of a hero than anything, considering how much it had sacrificed of itself to stop Dialga and Palkia from feuding and disturbing the universe.

Appearance-wise, I feel it looks pretty good. It's based mainly off shadow, and while there are other Pokémon that might share similar characteristics--Gengar, for example--this one seems to execute things much further, so to speak. It might be banned in terms of battling, but that doesn't matter to me at all, haha.

Aside from Darkrai, I'm also pretty fond of Zoroark, as well as Hydreigon.

this is that weird type where when I hear "dark type" I'm like yesss I love this type and then I look through them and yeahhhhh

- Honchkrow: Used in diamond and loved, became the staple of my team

- Bisharp: It's bad ass

- Mandibuzz: Poor bird has been so overlooked compared to that eagle (lol I can't even think of the name rn) I really love it though!!!

Houndoom is my third favorite Pokémon ever, so that obviously gets my vote.

Hydreigon is another big favorite of mine, one of my favorite designs from Gen V, and battling Ghetsis' in BW really helps that factor.

Scrafty, Absol, Pangoro and Honchkrow get my other votes, I quite like all four of those for different reasons.

Sableye, Sharpedo, Sandile, and Greninja.

Sableye is so ugly and creepy he somehow becomes cute. He's a bit of a jack of all trades, with no outstanding strengths or weaknesses. Also, no weaknesses and three immunities makes him tough to take down.

Torpedo Shark is either the coolest wrestler name never taken, or a creature that's just silly enough to be awesome.

Sandile is a cool little croc with cool little shades.

I'm not a fan of frogs, but something about Froakie and his line just makes me happy. It must be that they're ninja. Ninja are cool.

Darkrai for me; it's got a nice, simple design, is highly useful - wreaking merry hell with Dark Void was always fun - and I really liked its movie, too. Overall the fourth generation is my favourite, in a large part for its fantastic Legendaries, and Darkrai is one of my favourites from that gen. Given the relatively small pool of Dark-types to choose from...there wasn't really any contest. xD

I quite like Spiritomb though, so I also voted for that...it's one of the few shiny Pokemon I really, really like, and I like the whole 108 spirits in one body thing...I actually roleplayed a Spiritomb once and wrote out 108 small personalities for it. It took absolutely ages. xD

Love all Dark-types (maybe except Darkrai, I like it but it seems meh to me) but Scrafty, being my favourite Pokemon ever, wins by default. It holds a special place in my heart. <3

Other favourites include Hydreigon (second favourite), Houndoom (former favourite and now fourth favourite) and Mightyena (fifth favourite).

Absol is my favorite dark type! I really started liking it after seeing Drew's Absol in the show.
I also voted for Hydreigon who I've been using a lot this month in my Y version. I really enjoy using it, it's a great pokemon with an awesome design too.
