Welcome to the second annual Favorite Pokémon Tournament here in the Pokémon Polls board, where our goal is to determine the favorite Pokémon of the users here at the PokéCommunity! This will be a tournament that lasts several months, where we'll pit almost all the Pokémon from different types together to determine a winner. After we know the winner of each type, we'll add all of those Pokémon to a final poll, where the winner(s) will be crowned champion, and be known as PokéCommunity's favorite Pokémon!

If you haven't had the opportunity, please read the Rules/FAQ to find out more about the tournament:

    Spoiler:

NOTE: Because of the limited number of poll spaces, not all eligible Pokémon have been included. If you want to vote for an unlisted Water-type, check the "Other Pokémon" option represented by a (?), and leave a post with your vote.

Now that you know what the tournament is all about, what are you waiting for? Polls will remain open until November 9th, so get voting!

  • Alright guys, I did what I could, but with there now being nearly 125 different Water-type Pokemon, it was tough narrowing down just 24 sets for this poll. Obviously, I left a number of them out, but feel free to vote for any of your favorites that you don't see by using the Other Pokémon option, and then leaving a post saying who you voted for.

If I made any glaring omissions, hopefully I'll be able to add that Pokemon to the poll later on, but with that out of the way, happy voting everyone!

  • Yes my fave type of them all! So you'll notice I have a huge number of votes for this one because Water-types are versatile in terms of the role they serve, but also because they tend to be blue and that's my fave color.

So here's my picks from the aquatic bunch:

Psyduck line: This cutie was part of my first ever team in Ruby, after I somehow ditched my starter. I was usually a fan of Golduck's beauty at the time, and that's how it cemented a place as one of my fave 1st Gen Water-types.

Slowpoke line: I used to not like these things much but now I actually love them because they're cute but also pretty hilarious, plus I'm one of the few who actually likes Mega Slowbro's design.

Vaporeon: Tied with Glaceon and Sylveon for my all-time fave Eeveelution. I love how beautiful it looks with that mermaid-like tail.

Chinchou line: Water/Electric is a type combination so opposite it's unique, and it fits in well with them being based on Anglerfish. I also love how their sprites in Crystal show their lights flickering.

Marill / Azumarill: I always loved these cuties but they were never at full potential, but over the generations they got better while still being the adorable blue cuties they are.

Mudkip line: My fave Hoenn starter! I remember using it in Ruby (it was even female on the first go) and I definitely can't wait to use it again in OR/AS!

Wailmer line: I find these gentle giants well... another cute-looking Water-type. Although Wailord's size never is always consistent hahahahaha.

Kyogre: Kinda odd I played Ruby instead of Sapphire, but Kyogre clearly became my fave of Hoenn's main legendaries so yeah definitely will be going with Alpha Sapphire more than Omega Ruby thanks to this. I like Kyogre's Primal form better than Groudon's as well.

Piplup line: Tied with Chimchar's line as my fave Sinnoh starter. I mainly love Piplup due to how cute Dawn's Piplup was in the anime, and Empoleon has a really awesome type combination which makes it resist a lot of things. Also love the design of Empoleon as well.

Oshawott line: Do I have to explain this one? My all-time fave Pokemon, because Oshawott totally won me over with its cute face, and seriously how can one not love Badass Adorable Samurai Otters? Always my go-to starter when I play a 5th Gen game because well, Hika always needs her Oshawott.

Frillish line: I love Frillish and Jellicent. The Water/Ghost-typing, the gender differences being adorbs (especially the male Jellicent with his Pringles mustache hahahaha) and having great stats and abilities. If I was forced to use a Unova Water-type that wasn't Oshawott, I'd pick this thing in a heartbeat.

Froakie line: My second fave starter line, ahead of Mudkip and just behind Oshawott. It started off as my least fave Kalos starter but as time went on it slowly went from my least fave to my top fave, probably because of how badass Ash's Froakie was portrayed in the anime and because Greninja is awesome. How can you not love an awesome ninja froggy?

Clauncher line: I liked this thing much better than Skrelp's line, because it has a cool ability that boosts aura/pulse moves and it learns all of said moves to complement it well. Don't let its small size fool you, that giant claw is one heck of a cannon. Definitely glad I picked X as my main version over Y.

One vote from me this time: Piplup.

Not only because Dawn's Piplup had so much personality in the anime, but because I'd want a penguin Pokemon since the second generation. Every time I get one now I name it Pingu. I have an entire box filled with Pingus. Piplup is amazing.

I went for Slowbro, Politoed, Suicune and Piplup.

Slowpoke is my bro and a reliable team member to have. Sure it's slow. But seriously, a good design coupled with the mega form of the century. Not to mention the derpiness of Slowpoke itself. Good stuff.

I'm honestly not a fan of the whole family but I find Politoed itself pretty cute. Its design is questionable - a baby-like frog from fighting water-types? Regardless, I appreciate the more adorable side of pokemon designs and Politoed isn't really an exception in that regard. I find it more useful than Poliwrath with power matched equally and an overall better ability. Plus the design is top notch compared to its counterpart.

If someone wanted Suicune badly enough to chase him for ten years, he has to be pretty good right? Again, most of my favourite mons of each types are things I've never even used before. Suicune isn't any different but I'll mention that it has one of the best designs in the entire franchise. It's so elegant and majestic and asdfgkl; /cue fangirling. I'm not really as hyped as other Suicune fans but I'm certainly a huge fan of it compared to say Raikou or Entei. :D

And lastly, Piplup. First starter that I completed the game with, one of the best characters of the anime and so forth. I too named it Pingu along with other 'legendary' nicknames such as 'iCanFly'. Never forget. I guess PC has a thing for Pingu the Piplup though. =P

  • Gotta love Water-types. Voted for:

Squirtle line - right up there in terms of my favourite Pokemon. Squirtle was my favourite Pokemon when I was younger, partially because of the anime, and I still love it <3

Lapras - I've always been fond of Lapras. So graceful, so serene. Cool design.

Totodile line - My second favourite starter (behind Squirtle). Again I loved Totodile in the anime and Feraligatr was served me well in Johto playthroughs.

Suicune - So graceful. I love its design. <3

As for Pokemon not listed in the poll:

Krabby line - I'm not sure why but I've always liked this line as well. *shrugs*

Seel line - One of my favourite evolutionary lines. Seel is so adorable <3 And Dewgong is pretty cool too.

Qwilfish - it's pretty forgotten but I love it to bits anyway haha.

Luvdisc - it's definitely far from the most popular Water-type but I've always been fond of an underdog! ;P

Wooper line - The first shiny I ever came across was a Wooper waaaay back on Silver (I've only come across one shiny since then and it's been what, 13 years?). Wooper and Quagsire are adorable <3 And pretty decent in battle too!

Buizel line - One of my favourite lines from Sinnoh. Really cool designs.

Mantyke line - Mantyke is so cute and Mantine just has a really cool design.

I think that's about it for today :P As you can tell, I like Pokemon with cute/cool designs :P

I love so many Water types, I don't even feel like naming them all...

Aside from the ones in the poll that I voted for, I also love Cloyster, Lapras, Omastar, Mantine, Ludicolo, Manaphy, and Seismitoad.

  • Finally the poll for my number one favorite type of Pokemon. I voted for all of the water type starters since they are awesome. I also voted for the Poliwag line since I like its branched evolutionary path. As for why I voted for the Staryu line, well I find they are cool. Regarding why I voted for the Magikarp line is that Gyarados is badass. As for voting for Vaporeon, it is my number one favorite Eeveelution. As for Suicune and Kyogre, they are my favorite Water type Legendary Pokemon.

  • Water type Pokemon I liked and voted for:
    • Vaporeon, just love the Eeveelutions! so it's vote from me can't be missing
    • Mudkip/Marshtomp/Swampert, just look awesome!
    • Carvanha/Sharpedo, since the first time I used one in a water team, they became high favorites of mine
    • Oshawott/Dewott/Samurott, just love otters instant favorites of mine

My main Vote is in the ??? mark again, should have been on the main vote since it's only Water Type - goes to Buizel & Floatzel!! Favorite Water Type, and love otters just too much.

  • Big thanks to Zekrom for pointing out a mistake in the poll- Lapras was erroneously included despite winning the Ice-type poll a few weeks back. I've replaced them in the poll with the Kingdra family, who I wanted to include anyway. I've given them 10 votes to put them in the middle of the pack, but it's still early yet, so they shouldn't be at too much of a disadvantage!

  • I'll just draw attention to a few of my votes

Buizel/Floatzel - Whilst not amazing competitively, these two have such a simple yet well-executed design and are perfectly good for an in-game team. They rank extremely highly for me among pokemon I like.

Feraligatr - I feel this guy is seriously underrated by a lot of people. He's got a great design as well as good stats and a decent movepool. I'm sure he has some competitive value for his tier, but either way he's a demon in game.

Greninja - Great design and concept as well as an extremely useful hidden ability and competitive viability. How could I not love this thing?

Frillish/Jellicent - Perfectly executed design, decent movepool, some viability competitively and a really cool concept. Yet another one I find hard not to love - although I actually prefer Frillish's design a little bit.

Politoed - Drizzle. Aside from that, it has usable stats and movepool and I really love its gawky and endearing design. I greatly prefer it to Poliwrath (but hey he gets the vote too by association xD). Also, did I mention drizzle?

  • My top 10 would be: Vaporeon (all-time favourite Eeveelution and second favourite Pokémon ever after Ninetales); Suicune and Dewgong (both primarily for the majestic design); Gastrodon (or YAS-trodon as I'm now gonna call him lmao); Seaking (love its design and I tend to have one in a lot of my teams); Totodile (loved Ash's Totodile's personality and just have a lot of love for the Johto starters in general); Frogadier (the whole concept of a ninja frog is awesome, they really got it right with the water starter this generation imo!); Clawitzer (one of the reasons I wanted to buy X, this guy has some great pulse moves and plus... I caught a shiny on my X file so I'm a teeny bit biased where it's concerned lol!) and finally Golduck and Ducklett (I just really love ducks lol xD Golduck moreso cause I've actually used him on a team) :)

  • Froakie line
At first, I didn't like any of the sixth generation starters, but that all changed when the Fire Nation attacked when I chose Froakie! He won me over in the Pokemon Amie, not to mention Greninja, totally bad-ass ninja frog with amazing competitive skills.

    Gastrodon
I love the Water/Ground typing, and though this guy's stats aren't great, he sure did make a good teammate in Pokemon Pearl! I also find him kind of cute. c:

    Piplup
My god, how can any not vote for this little guy? Little penguins are so, so cute, and Piplup is no exception! His final evolution is pretty awesome as well.

    Milotic
This beautiful serpentine creature has always been one of my favourite Generation 3 Pokemon, out of my top five at least. Even though it's a pain to capture Feebas, I think it's worth it!

    Mudkip
Again, that Water/Ground typing! <3 Mudkip is a cutie, though I'm not overly fond of either Marshtomp or Swampert. Mudkip was my first partner in Mystery Dungeon. c:

    Chinchou/Lanturn
These two got my vote mostly for their cute appearances but I also like their typing! I've never used a Lanturn in-game before but I would like to someday.

    Vaporeon
I'm a big Eeveelutions fan, so of course this guy got my vote! Vaporeon was my favourite Pokemon when I was little.

    Squirtle/Wartortle/Blastoise
These guys got my vote just for the sake of them being Gen 1 starters. :p

    Wailmer, Palkia, Jellicent

Wailmer's so cute just bouncing up and down with that big grin on its face. Palkia is my favorite legendary 'mon, and Jellicent is really cool with the whole male-female difference, not to mention it walls everything in battle.

  • There are so many I could name aside from Lapras (which I don't need to), but to name some, Azumarill (for reasons I mentioned in the Fairy-type thread), Lanturn, Jellicent (particularly males with the mustache), Greninja and Clawitzer are all ones i'm quite fond of.

However I kinda like Frogadier more than Greninja, I don't really know why. Clawitzer is pretty strong with Mega Launcher and I like its design, and Lanturn's typing is quite nice especially with Volt Absorb.
